CMS Restoration got a call about a leak from their toilet. CMS dispatched its water mitigation crew to assess the extent of the damage. The toilet supply line had been leaking for quite some time, causing damage to the bathroom floor and the bedroom ceiling below. The crew found mold growth and called an independent environmental testing company. The company tests for different types of mold spores and the number of mold spores in the affected area.

The crew began to seal the bathroom and bedroom with 6-millimeter plastic to prevent mold spores from spreading to the rest of the house. Once contained, they removed all affected flooring in the bathroom and discovered mold growth on the subfloor. Time for mold mitigation. They went downstairs and tore out the ceiling in the bedroom. They found that the framing had mold growth. Once all the affected materials were properly disposed of, they started specialty cleaning. Specialty cleaning involves using HEPA vacuum cleaners with HEPA filters. We then seal the visible mold with a paint sealant to prevent further growth. Next, wipe down every square inch of containment with rags soaked in an antimicrobial chemical.

The final step is to fog the containment with a chemical that encapsulates any remaining mold spores that may have been missed. Have the independent environmental testing company return to conduct a post-test to confirm that we have effectively eliminated the mold spores. Once we receive the results, we then take our machine that cleans the air out and dismantle any plastic containment that we had.
